Residency at Kings County Hospital

July 17, 2019

In July we began a residency at the psychiatric wards at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, support by the Beautiful Distress Foundation out of Amsterdam.

We are studying expressions of mental illness in movement and considering the impact on choreography.

We will be living in the hospital for 12 months during which we will be learning about care and institutionalization, bureaucracy and consent, ethics and art. It is through our practice and our outreach that we are trying to find ways to reduce the stigma of mental illness.

This project has been a long time coming for us and we're thrilled for all of the support, training and access we've been given by the staff at Kings County.
